I won’t lie, I always questioned “Community Over Competition.” I knew what it was supposed to mean, but I didn’t fully understand how it could work. How could people in the exact same industry — literally direct competitors — raise one another up in business? And while I had ideas of what it might look like, it didn’t all fully click until I was in a room with 300 other photographers, feeling inspired, supported, and motivated by my industry peers.
So far, 2017 has been one for the books. Last December I finished at community college and for the first time in my life when January rolled around, I didn’t go back to school. Whaaaat?! It was a totally foreign feeling at first, but now the thought of going to school sounds, well, honestly? It sounds horrible. BUT because I wasn’t attending college classes, I had incredible opportunities to travel and learn from industry pros for the past 6 months.
Since I started my business, I have attended 5 different workshops/conferences/summits/whatever you want to call them. And while each one was extremely beneficial in it’s own rite, there is one thing I wish I would’ve heard before attending all of them. And that’s this…

Having a rainy wedding day can mean a lot things. Traditionally, it’s lucky. Nowadays, it’s nerve-wrecking. But for these 2, it was nothing but laid back fun.
Josh and Sami got married this past Saturday and had a beautiful ceremony at the Garden Chapel in St. Louis. After their wedding, right during portrait time, it started pouring, which for some people would be a cause for panic. But these 2 just grabbed some cute umbrellas and danced in the rain! 🙂 (Which resulted in some adorable portraits, I should add!)
After their portraits at Forest Park, we all headed to Orlando’s for their reception! It was an awesome evening celebrating the newlyweds with good food, dancing and cake! 🙂
Josh and Sami, thanks so much for choosing
Monday’s aren’t so bad when you get to hang out with really rad couples like these two! Earlier this week, I got to photograph Tony and Lauralee’s engagement session at Busch Wildlife during golden hour. Talk about photographer dreams… these two stunners + fall foliage + golden hour light. Uhm yes, please! And I definitely didn’t mind that they busted out their Cards jerseys too! A couple after my own heart. 🙂
From the first time I met with Lauralee, I knew she would be the sweetest, most adorable bride. There was nothing but laughs, smiles, and sweet nuzzles from these two the whole night. Even their dog, Max, joined in of the fun and hopped in a few pictures with them! 🙂
